Online marketing company fishbat cites the importance of mobile advertising in response to a Wall Street Journal article discussing the increase of mobile devices on home broadband networks.
On May 24, online marketing company fishbat discusses how mobile devices are accounting for more usage on home broadband networks.
According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, Apple is primarily responsible for this uptick in home usage of mobile devices. In the article, Sandvine’s broadband usage report cites “mobile devices now account for 20 percent of traffic on home broadband networks.” A year ago, it was just 9 percent.
People who own iPhones or other smartphones are spending more time using these devices at home. Over 25 percent of “all audio and video data sent to mobile devices” takes place at home, the article says. However, Apple dominates the digital landscape with iPad accounting for over 10 percent of home traffic on a mobile device. If you were to add up the home broadband usage of all Apple devices, including iPads, iPhones, and Macs, it would comprise more than 45 percent of home usage of mobile devices.
The article reveals a chart for mobile device home usage across all brands. The usage reads as follows:
- 35% – Windows PCs
- 12.2% – OS X PCs
- 23.1% – iOS Devices
- 7.2% – Android Devices
- 15.7% – Smartphones
- 25.9% – Smartphones and Tablets
Justin Maas, vice president of client relations at online marketing company fishbat, attributes the usage numbers to the growing need to stay connected after work or school.
“More people are becoming digitally connected and relying on their mobile digital connections at all hours of the day,” says Maas. “Social networking has become part of our daily routine and our favorite way to communicate. People are choosing to devote more time and depend on their mobile devices more than their laptops or PCs.”
However, the increase in mobile usage does mean it’s a good time for online marketing companies to strengthen brand mobile advertising campaigns. “Digital marketing agencies should look to capitalize on this trend as mobile devices are certainly solidifying themselves within the digital landscape,” adds Maas. “Mobile advertising is the next big thing and Sandvine’s report proved that the best way to reach people is on their smartphones or tablets.”
