In response to an article published on Mashable, Internet marketing company fishbat celebrates national Social Media Day with Mashable, inspiring the continued and increased use of social media.

On July 6, Internet marketing company fishbat responds to an article published on Mashable, which explains the national celebration of Social Media Day and the importance of social media.

According to a Mashable article published on June 30th titled “Happy Social Media Day,” last Sunday marked the third celebration of Social Media Day around the world. The holiday was launched by Mashable back in 2010 to celebrate the technologies that connect people. In the article, the author Todd Olmstead says that “In the spirit of these technologies that connect us, Social Media Day brings us together — both online and offline.”

The day was celebrated around the world in a variety of ways. There were many events organized by businesses and consumers. Some of the events included “business networking, educational panels, training sessions and social gatherings. Meet ups took take place on six continents — in some instances bringing hundreds or even thousands of people together,” according to the article.

Justin Maas, vice president of client relations at Internet marketing company fishbat says, “Social media has grown into something that is part of us. It is so ingrained in our culture and plays such an important role in our everyday lives that its not surprising that people around the world are starting to celebrate the idea.”

Along with events, Mashable wanted social media users around the world to tag posts with the phrase “#smday” in order to connect with others who were celebrating.

“The entire day is dedicated to connections,” Maas says. “It’s a day to celebrate those connections that we have and can foster with people from all over the world. Social media is one of those inventions that has changed the way we live our lives, so it’s our way of showing how thankful we are.”

The article also says Mashable produced several videos to spark participation. They also teamed up with Vice and Milk Studios to further push the day. Overall Social Media Day achieved its goal of spreading social media awareness.

“We connect with each other day,” Maas says. “It’s become a normal part of our lives to achieve this connection through social media outlets. I feel that this annual event will continue for a long time because it seems like social media is growing bigger and more influential everyday. We look forward to this day each year to become social physically and digitally.
