You know, I was thinking today about something. Someone brought up Klout and how it measures your “influence” in the social media world. Pretty incredible actually, but I digress. Besides working for an online marketing firm, I also work part time at a golf course. My coworkers and I were recently talking about how much of an “influence” one person can have on your golf game.
So let’s talk Tiger, Tiger Woods. The guy was, and still is, the face of golf. No matter how bad or how good he is playing, I always get asked, “How’s Tiger doing?” People love the guy because he brings back energy into the game. Without him, it’s like watching paint dry. Even with his screw-up of a private life, the man still is the world’s greatest golfer in my eyes. I’d give him a Klout Score of 90+ in the golf industry.
Tiger’s main sponsor is Nike. Being an avid golfer, obviously, I always wished he would change sponsors. But I guess when the money is coming in, what difference does it make? Maxfli is a golf ball manufacturer and they make a decent product. Not many tour players play Maxfli, but only because they don’t pay many pros to do so. A friend and local business owner John was recently sent a pack of Maxfli balls for his involvement in Klout and his “influence” on the social media world. Kind of ironic, right?
But anyway, I was trying to connect the golf industry and it’s professionals to Klout. Obviously these people are paid professionals for what they do and how well they do it. These people are paid to “influence you.” You are not getting paid to “influence” anyone. If you are not getting paid to be influential and your score is high up there, imagine if you were getting paid?
