On July 17, social media agency fishbat announces its support at Open Water Swim LLC’s, charity ocean swim event at Atlantique Beach on Fire Island this Saturday.
This year, Open Water Swim teamed up with St. Frances Sports to benefit HOSPICE Care Network Children and Family Bereavement program and Fire Island Ocean Rescue.
Clay Darrohn, CEO and “Big Tuna” of the online marketing company, says fishbat is always willing to support local charities for a good cause. “Open Water Swim is a great company and they always put on a really fun event,” he says. “It’s a great opportunity for everyone to come together to support local organizations and people that do amazing work every day. Open Water Swim’s founder, Bryan Krut, said last year’s charity ocean swim event raised about $15,000 and they hope to raise even more this time.”
Darrohn says funds raised from donations will go to HOSPICE and Fire Island Ocean Rescue. “Some of the proceeds will assist in providing the Fire Island Ocean Rescue with appropriate equipment and funds necessary to help them participate in National Lifeguard competitions,” he says. “Proceeds will also help HOSPICE fund its Children and Family Bereavement program.”
Darrohn says fishbat will be at the event helping, handing out towels and t-shirts, while helping participants and attendees to the beach. “We want to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible for this event,” he says. “We also want to make sure people understand how important it is to help out local organizations. Fire Island Ocean Rescue and HOSPICE are two very important organizations here on Long Island. We are honored to be able to help out as much as we can.”
The 2nd annual Fire Island ocean swim event will consist of 1 mile, 5k and 10k races including all of the best swimmers from all over the country. For the popular 5k, swimmers will make their way from Atlantique Beach to Kismet and then back. The 5K has even been deemed a Zone Championship swim so contenders will vie to be the fastest swimmers in the zone. For the 10k, swimmers will make two of these loops. As an alternative, swimmers will be able to complete a 1-mile swim from Atlantique to Fair Harbor and back again. Darrohn says there will be well over 70 swimmers participating in the races.
Open Water Swim LI was developed for those who want to train and participate in open water swims and competitions. Coach and founder, Bryan Krut is committed to sharing his extensive knowledge and experience in order to make a greater difference in the world of swimming and open water swim competitions.
“These are world class swimmers, so it’s going to be great to watch,” Darrohn says. “It will be a fun day, and I encourage everyone to attend. What’s better than a day at the beach?”
The Open Water Swim event will be held at 11:15 a.m. at Atlantique Beach in Fire Island. Attendees must take the Bay Shore Fire Island ferries to access the beach. Darrohn says ferry schedules are available online.
