Part of me is a 3D documentary concert film that comes out sometime this year. It basically describes Katy Perry’s rise to fame. In order to promote Part of Me on Pinterest, Katy Perry is putting up photos that are related to the movie and also photos that are just related to her in general.

It seems like Katy Perry is really trying to connect with her fans through Pinterest, but after careful consideration in my opinion it’s all just a big marketing ploy to get the word out about her movie. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. Pinterest is the new outlet for marketing these days, especially for celebrities. It’s a way to get fans to learn more about the celebrities upcoming shows, movies, and stuff in the news.

Katy Perry’s Pinterest account has 12 boards with 125 pins. There are 18 likes and 919 followers so far. One of the boards is strictly dedicated to Katy Perry’s fans. She calls the board Fans/KatyCats. The other boards are a mixture of Katy Perry’s style, her tour, and of course her movie, Part of Me. Most of the pins are directly related to the new 3D movie.

Katy Perry urges her fans to get involved with her Pinterest page. Her description says, “Create your own Katy Perry: Part of Me Pinterest board! Re-Pin images from our board or pin your own “Part of Me” inspired pics with #KP3D. We may use your board as part of the KP3D Movie campaign!” As you can see, she really wants her fans to post pictures and re-pin her pictures as well, which is an excellent way to keep fans engaged and looking forward to the new movie.

Overall, I think Katy Perry did a great job with her Pinterest page. She posts a variety of pictures, with many of them relating to the upcoming movie, Part of Me. While I really think the only point of her Pinterest is to promote the movie (it will likely disappear after the movie comes out) she keeps her fans engaged and that is an important part of using social media for marketing purposes.
