Now again, we want to spruce up the house a bit and decorate. The cost of decorating however can get a little pricey though. Don’t go to one of those expensive decor stores to get your wall art; instead, save some money and do it at home. You don’t have to be an artist to make your own wall art, so here are some tips on how to liven up your living space:
- Tape it!: Get some paper, using any medium you like and than grab some blue painters tape. Arrange the tape in different directions creating geometric shapes. Make sure you extend each piece of tape to at least one edge of the paper. Use any medium of choice (even a crayon) and color in the negative spaces. When you’re finished let it completely dry, especially if using paint. Carefully peel off the tape and you’ll have yourself a homemade Mondrian!
- Fine Art: This project, I find will give your wall painting more texture by using paper that has a rough surface like watercolor paper. Take a wide brush and sweep vertically or horizontally across the paper and have the paint thin out at the end to create the texture. Practice a few times to get a feel for how much paint to use on your brush. Frame it and you’ll have a piece that you can show off. Use as many or as few colors as you like. This will take less time than a design on Microsoft Paint! Variety is the spice of life!
- Abstract: This one again will take you no time at all. Start at the top edge of the paper with a big glob of paint and tilt your paper up right and let it drip down the paper. Move the paper around to get the effect you want. Remember that this is all abstract art; it doesn’t have to be perfect so if you mess up just go with it. If your room is blue maybe try a commentary color like some oranges with yellows and reds to make the art pop on your wall. Try not to mix lots of colors together because it will make brown. Commentary colors will also make brown like red and green.
These steps will take you less than 30 minutes to do. The best part about this is that you don’t have to be an artist to make a great piece of art to compliment your room. You’ll have all your friends saying ‘I didn’t know you paint!’ Comment and share how your projects went. Do you have better ones?
