In response to an article published on Mashable, Internet marketing firm fishbat affirms the increased use of social media in super-niche companies and why more of those companies are gravitating toward digital media.

On June 11, Internet marketing firm fishbat details the importance of social media when it comes to niche companies, as cited in a Mashable article.

According to an article published on May 16th onMashable, only 2 million people in the United States own horses. This is less than 1 percent of the entire population. The article says selling products that are solely directed to horse owners will only reach a relatively small number of people.

For instance, Pamela Carr is the founder of a product called Alleva-Wave, which is an alternative pain relief device for horses. The article says her company does not have a real social media presence. Before Mashable wrote the article, Alleva-Wave didn’t even have a Facebook page.

Justin Maas, VP of Client Relations at Internet marketing firm fishbat, says having a social presence is essential for niche companies. It’s the best way to expand outreach. “Gaining fans or likes through a specifically targeted approach is great for niche companies,” says Maas. “By finding similarities with other associations or businesses, a super-niche company can use the other pages to advertise their product and draw people to their website through shares.”

However, Maas says it’s also important to make use of resources that these super-niche companies already have. For example, the article says Carr started a LinkedIn group some years ago that has recently grown to almost 2,000 members. Carr hopes to reach out to these users through weekly or monthly discussions about the best ways to use her product.

“Reaching out to people with similar interests is crucial to the success of a niche product,” Maas says. “Social media is a great vehicle to get your business’s name out into the world; it’s just a matter of finding the right path to travel down.”
