The written word is the most important tool of our society. Not only is it used to express both fact and opinion, but it is used in a series of formats that affect our everyday lives.
Without writing, we would have no directional signs. Without writing, actors couldn’t memorize their lines. Without writing, traditional and internet marketing companies wouldn’t have the ability to produce and distribute content. Stories would never be told, histories would never be preserved, and, most importantly, we would have a much more difficult time learning.
What’s more important than writing itself, however, is good writing. Someone who writes using incorrect spelling or grammar is hard to take seriously or put faith in. It seems sloppy, careless, and unintelligent. That is not to say those who have a hard time with spelling and grammar are less intelligent than those who do not–in fact, quite the contrary. What poor writing suggests is that the person did not take the time to proofread (or have someone proofread for him or her). Rather, this disregard shows they are not serious about making as powerful of an impact with their words as possible.
In business, and especially marketing, the written word is of the utmost importance. Content writers and editors are always working to optimize blog posts, press releases, and website content to create the highest impact for readers while ensuring the language reflects the appropriate keywords for search engine optimization (SEO).
Words are used for description, persuasion, and personalization. A business that can do these things skillfully will be successful, regardless of the nature of the company.
This post has been written and rewritten multiple times. Before its final publish, it will likely be proofread another two times or more. This should not be the exception; it should be the standard. The effort you put into your work reflects directly on you and your business. Set high standards, and always produce work you are proud to share with others. These are the things that will draw clients directly to your doorstep and drive business for a long time to come.
