Dealing With Social Media Rejection

As we are all aware of, every social media networking site out there contains some sort of “friend request” or “follow me” type of button which permits you to develop inner circles and communities within those networks. For many, virtual rejection is a big problem especially when it comes to rejection by an ex, a colleague or a family member.

For many, virtual rejection is a big problem especially when it comes to rejection by an ex, a colleague or a family member.

A lot of people don’t take it too personally when someone ignores there Facebook request or un-follows them on Twitter but, you’d be surprised just how many people take it to heart and are offended by Internet rejection.

The issue is that digital rejection is a lot easier to do then rejecting someone in person. When you “de-friend” or “un-follow” someone, you’re doing it with a click of your mouse, whereas, when you’re face to face with someone chances are you’re going to be a little more polite.

It is known that even though we’re dealing with “online rejection”, it doesn’t reduce the physical reaction we have when dealing with emotional pain.

Most of us wouldn’t sign onto Facebook and see that we have 743 friends instead of the 744 friends we had the day before, and look through our friends list to see who de-friended us and send them a hate message. But knowing who has de-friended you could very well change how people feel and many take it personally, wanting to know if they did anything wrong and if they should ask the person what the reason is.

I don’t look at social media that seriously and it certainly doesn’t ruin my day to know who’s de-friending me or ignoring my requests. Are you one of those people that feels offended and hurt when someone de-friends or un-follows you? Or do you think that it isn’t that important to worry about?
