On May 31, fishbat, one of the nation’s leading social media agencies, discusses why some users can handle more social media accounts than others.

According to an article on Mashable, there are many different reasons why a user may choose to have only one social media account or many. Some choose to use only one social media platform to avoid familiar faces. The article says business owner Matthew Shirey only used Twitter. While he tried Facebook, he said too many people from his past tried to connect with him.

The article says some people simply do not have the time to maintain multiple social media accounts. Shirey says in the article that managing multiple social media accounts caused him stress and anxiety. Whenever he saw notifications, he felt compelled to spend more time on that platform. However, Shirey is now free of his Twitter account. “I don’t regret quitting it at all. Now I don’t feel the need to go check it anymore because it’s not there,” he says in the article.

Other social media users say they simply congregate to whichever platform their friends are using. In the article, Zachary Kirker, a college student in Cincinnati, claims that the only reason he is on Facebook is because that is where his friends are. “I get on Facebook when I’m bored or I need to get a hold of somebody,” he says in the article.
Justin Maas, VP of Client Relations at fishbat, one of the nation’s leading social media agencies, says, “Social media is still relatively new to a lot of people. While some people may be able to juggle Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram, others are still adjusting to putting their whole life out there for everybody to see.”

However, Maas urges people to do their best to adapt to social media platforms because they are becoming more prominent for business.

Social media marketing is the future of business says Maas. “Those who don’t embrace social media are going to get left behind,” he says. “Facebook has over a billion users, while Twitter has over half a billion. YouTube users spend approximately 2.9 billion hours online each month and thousands of pictures are uploaded to Flickr every minute! These numbers are only going to continue to grow. Becoming accustomed to social media may be difficult for those who are used to other forms of advertising, but those who don’t learn are going to get left in the dust.”
